The reason I have left the first horse, the White Horse,
until last is because it is the most complex, the most easily and commonly
misunderstood and by far the most dangerous of all the Horsemen. The text is simple but the meaning behind the
imagery used for the White Horse is far from simple. “I looked, and there before me was a white
horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was
given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.” Rev. 6:2
Most
people, scholars and laymen alike, mistakenly believe the White Horse must have
something to do with warfare. The rider
is given a bow and a crown, which would seem to indicate not only warfare but
the gaining of secular, temporal power through warfare.
Although the White Horse does refer to war of a kind it is
not the physical type of warfare that we might assume. Rather it refers to a spiritual warfare
between the truth and the lie. In the
Bible Satan is called ‘the father of lies’, John 8:44. In the Garden of Eden Satan told the first
lie – ‘You will not surely die... for God knows that when you eat of it your
eyes will be opened, and you will be like God’ Gen 3:4. From this first lie came every other lie ever
told, hence giving Satan the title of ‘father of lies’. Satan deceived Eve by bending the truth,
telling a little truth with a lot of lie in order to accomplish his goal, the
fall of man. For Satan knew, as did all
of God’s heavenly creation, that God did not mean that Adam or Eve would drop
dead the instant they consumed the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good
and Evil but that on the day they ate of the tree death would enter the world
in the form of the Pale Horse.
Thus we see that Satan both lied to Eve while at the same
time telling a form of literal truth.
Neither Adam nor Eve dropped dead the day they ate of the fruit, but
death did enter the world and has existed ever since. God did not intend for His children to grow
old and die and Satan knew this and by twisting the truth, just a tiny little
bit, he was able to deceive Eve who in turn tempted her husband, Adam. Satan also lied by telling Eve that eating of
the fruit would ‘make her like God’ when in truth it merely opened the way for
evil to enter the world. From this
moment each person, beginning with Eve, began to believe they could discern
good from evil on their own merits instead of simply trusting and following
God, allowing Him to show us the difference between good and evil. So we see that Satan is not only a liar, and
the father of lies, but that he uses a partial truth to deceive and confuse.
Given this understanding and insight into Satan’s methods we
begin to see the meaning of the symbolism of the White Horse, for there is
another White Horse described in the Bible.
In the Book of Revelation, chapter 19 John writes “I saw heaven standing
open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and
True... On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: King of Kings
and Lord of Lords,” Rev 19:11-16. John
makes clear the identity of the rider of the second white horse; it is none
other than Jesus Himself preparing to return to earth in glory. It is this second white horse that tells us
clearly that the first white horse is a copy or counterfeit of the second. In other words Satan presents a copy or
counterfeit religion to that given to us by God and Jesus.
The White Horse, sent forth conquering and to conquer, is
nothing more than a counterfeit of what we now term Christianity. The word ‘Christianity’ has only been coined
since the death of Christ and it was originally a name given to Jesus’
followers by their enemies. During the
time of Jesus ministry, and before going back to the book of Genesis, God’s followers
referred to themselves as ‘Followers of The Way’. For the sake of clarity I will refer to the
followers of God’s Way as ‘Christians’ and their religion as ‘Christianity’ and
use the term ‘religion’ to refer to Satan’s clever counterfeit. Yet even this clarification presents
difficulties as Satan’s White Horse has indeed conquered, with his false
religion spreading so far and wide that most people today believe it to be
Christianity when in fact it is not.
I realise that for many people this is a radical and
controversial claim – that almost all of recognized Christianity is little more
than Satan’s clever counterfeit. I do
not expect you to take my word for it, the evidence exists and I will, as these
posts continue, provide that evidence. I
take this opportunity to further make completely plain that when discussing
this false Christianity I am not referring to individual people who may be
members of this religion. Religion is
not faith and faith is not religion.
There are many people, probably numbering in the many millions, who are
ostensibly a part of Satan’s counterfeit Christianity yet whose hearts are
pure, who want a relationship with God.
I write for them.
In God's Truth,
Tracey
